Passion Fruit

Passion fruit is a perennial woody creeper which is becoming an important cash crop for thr farmers of Sikkim. Indigenous to the tropical regions of America Passion fruit is known for its beautiful white flowers with purple to pink crown blooms. The two main commercial varieties are purple passion fruit (Passiflora edulis L.), and yellow passion fruit (P. edulis f. flavicarpa). The purple variety of the passion is widely cultivated in Sikkim. Passion fruit is a good source of vitamins A and C, as well as potassium and iron. One passion fruit has only 16 calories. When eaten with the seeds, a serving is an excellent source of fiber. 

Currently Sikkim produces annualy more than 500 metric tonnes of passion fruit.
